An Ecology and Natural History Museum was established in 1994 at Marano Sul Panaro, in the transition zone between the Po Plain and mountain landscapes. Strongly didactic in its aims, the Museum is equipped with a scientific-educational laboratory and is linked to an Environmental Education Service which provides guided visits and natural history excursions. The Museum's first two rooms introduce the visitor to geology, palaeontology and ecology (with zoological, mineralogical, palaeontological and botanic exhibits), while the next five illustrate the main natural environments found in the Province of Modena (rivers, meadows and forests) with the aid of panels, dioramas, aquariums, aqua-terrariums and materials displayed behind glass.
