Modena Week-End:logo S. Pellegrino in Alpe. "Don Luigi Pellegrini" Museum of the countryside

    Bastiglia: Museum of peasant life

The exhibits are on show in the old church hospice and have been collected from the Modena and Reggio Emilia Apennines and the Garfagnana area. The museum focuses on agriculture and crafts during the period from the early Nineteenth Century to the present day. The materials are in eleven rooms, some of which contain reconstructions of typical home settings (the kitchen, the wine cellar and the bedroom) while others suggest working environments for craftsmen (the cobbler, the carpenter, the smith and the knife-grinder) or for household tasks (spinning, weaving and embroidery). There are also plentiful collections of items of various kinds (cradles, measures, bowls and basins, basket work articles, kitchen utensils, etc.). Since many of the pieces on display are made from chestnut or oak wood, the museum is really dedicated to the ingenuity and craft skills of a wood-based civilisation.
