The mountains and villages of the surrounding area all have much to tell about the Resistance. Anyone wishing to acquire a deeper understanding of the setting for this guerrilla war might, for example, take the road from Sassuolo through Montegibbio to the S. Pellegrinetto road junction and then to Casa Matteazzi, along the bank of the Rossenna river around the Pavaleggio mountain, and on to Casa Rossi and Monte S. Giulia.

There is nothing along the route to remind one of the Resistance, but the older inhabitants are still able to point out the sites of skirmishes and fires, the barns which were the hideouts of the Partisan bands, and the small shrines still riddled with bullet-holes.
