To walk around the edge of Carpi's centre, follow the Portico del Grano out of the main square along Corso Alberto Pio to Piazza Garibaldi, with its lower arcades with wider, flatter openings. To obtain a more general ideal of the town, it is worth visiting the Renaissance quarter of Borgogioioso. Here the blocks between the right-angled grid of streets have a more modest air, but via G. Rocca and via Guaitoli offer striking views of the arcades of San Nicolÿ and the ramparts of the Castle.
