Modena Week-End:logo Sassuolo - the historic centre

The real heart of Sassuolo is piazza Garibaldi, a blend of local taste and sophisticated design. The uniform arcade running round the buildings on all four sides, the brick pillars, the uniform red painted colour, the red clay roofing tiles sloping towards the piazza and the masonry copings all reflect a sense of due proportion, with a use of materials typical of the area. Entering the square from via Mazzini, one's gaze can run on to a perspective which ends with the entry to the ducal palace, which provides a background. There is another opening under the clock tower, as the arcade leads into an archway into via Venuzzi, creating another attractive view. The last passageway, beside the cathedral of San Giorgio, finishes in piazza Martiri Partigiani, linking the political-commercial and religious centres of the town.
