The fine range of quality films screened in Modena reflects a commitment to the genre reaching back over the decades. It was in the Fifties that the Circolo del Cinema Cabassi began to show cycles of films by the most respected directors, drawing enthusiastic audiences both for the films and for the discussion sessions which always followed. The city's interest in the cinema grew rapidly, and the group was forced to offer several screenings of each film and then move to larger venues. At the same time, film-lovers formed other groups which taught cinema-goers in general to appreciate the cultural importance of the silver screen. During the last few years, the proliferation of associations and the rising interest in the sector have led to the foundation of the Circuito Cinema, a private association which has signed a convention with the City Council for the management of four cinemas:

Filmstudio 7B (via Nicolà dell'Abate, 50) divides its activity into two main strands:

a) screening of new art films;
b) one evening a week, films from outside the commercial circuits, open only to "7B" members.
